We provide kinship families with information about their legal rights, and the support services and financial resources that are available to them.

VIEW 2024 RESOURCE GUIDE

Representation

We represent relative caregivers in court to obtain custody of at-risk children, and we represent them in applying for benefits and services to ensure a safe and stable home. 

Education

We draft articles and informational papers and give presentations to educate the DC and larger community about desperately needed supports and services for kinship families.

Advocacy

We advocate for laws and policies to ensure the safety and stability of kinship families

DC KinCare Alliance works to support relative caregivers who raise DC’s most vulnerable and at-risk children whose parents are not able to care for them for reasons including: death, incarceration, homelessness, substance use or mental health disorders, abuse or neglect, detainment or deportation. We empower relatives to care for these children by providing legal representation, education, and advocacy for the whole family.
